چکیده

Water induced soil erosion has been continued to threaten the land resources in sub humid northwestern highlands of Ethiopia. Human-induced cover (LC) changes due improper management practices are contributing factors deteriorating quality. Soil and water conservation measures have implemented without site-specific scientifically quantified data priority bases this regard; study was conducted with a view quantifying Anka-Shashara watershed. To do this, we opted use RUSLE model based on geographic information systems. By collecting rainfall, soils, vegetation, slopes separately as layer determining pixel values for each these factors, assessment basin is obtained. The result reveals that mean annual loss (15.22t/ha/yr) most parts area falls tolerable levels almost 66% (1594 ha), moderate level about 23% 10% at high watershed classified four main classes. None Slight rates (0-10t/ha) rate seen from distribution map. upstream catchment needs protection those existing fundamental attention SWC recommended bases. Therefore, reduce sedimentation problem ensue sustainability need special implementing intervention earlier.

Geographic information system and process-based modeling of soil erosion and sediment yield in agricultural watershed

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The study explored the capability of the geographic information system interface for the water erosion prediction project, a process-based model, to predict and visualize the specific location of soil erosion and sediment yield from the agricultural watershed of Taganibong. METHODS: The method involved the preparation of the fou...

Estimation of Soil Erosion Using RUSLE Model and Determination of Direct and Indirect Damages in Kan Watershed

Prioritization of different regions at watersheds based on the erosion rate and sediment yield with approach of its economic effects can lead to the production of valuable information for projects of soil conservatism. The present study aim was sub-watersheds prioritization of Kan watershed based on erosion condition with the approach of economic losses from erosion and sediment. Therefore, the...

Soil erosion estimation in conservation tillage systems with poultry litter application using RUSLE 2.0 model

Soil erosion is a major threat to global economic and environmental sustainability. This study evaluated long-term effects of conservation tillage with poultry litter application on soil erosion estimates in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) plots using RUSLE 2.0 computer model. Treatments consisting of no-till, mulch-till, and conventional tillage systems, winter rye (Secale cereale L.) cover cro...

Modeling Soil Erosion Using Rusle and Gis Tools

Soil erosion involves detachment and transport of soil particles from top soil layers, degrading soil quality and reducing the productivity of affected lands. Soil eroded from the upland catchment causes depletion of fertile agricultural land and the resulting sediment deposited at the river networks creates river morphological change and reservoir sedimentation problems. However, land managers...

Soil conservation planning at the small watershed level using RUSLE with GIS: a case study in the Three Gorge Area of China

The Three Gorge Project (TGP) of China necessitates the resettlement of over 1 million population (mostly farmers) to more rugged and isolated areas than their original settlements. Soil erosion is a serious environmental and production problem in this area. To decrease the risk on environmental impacts, there is an increasing demand for sound, and readily applicable techniques for soil conserv...
